Kawashima Yoshiko was born in Beijing on May 24th 1906, then was raised and educated in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan. She worked as a spy during the World War II. She died in March 1948 at the age of 40 years and 10 months old. Her death was caused by execution.
When she was 17, she began wearing menswear after failing an attempt at suicide. According to one theory, the reason why she began wearing menswear is that she had been raped by her foster father.
